Eric Clapton takes centre-stage on a montage Tracks cover, which is enticingly composed beneath a tubular, orange masthead. 

Tracks photographer Frank Pithers has been to see Clapton live at Syndney’s Horden pavilion and sounds impressed by the soaring riffs of the British, guitar genius. “The first couple of notes of Layla blasted people into the air.”          

In 1975 The Surfabout is the richest contest in surfing. The world’s best descend upon Sydney for the mobile event, but most of the action goes down at Narrabeen. Wayne Lynch returns from the wilderness to secure the $3500 first prize from Mark Richards and Terry Fitzgerald. However, no one pulls off the 360 to claim the five grand Coke put up for a full rotation on the face. 

Australia begins its exit strategy from the Vietnam War as the Whitlam, Labor government comes into power. Editor, Phil Jarratt, breathes a sigh relief because he’d been conscripted and was dodging the draft. “Two-foot lefts and rights are probably still breaking in Vietnam,” writes Jarratt.  “And maybe soon the local surfers will be riding them.”
