Title: Mick Moltzen, NSW North Coast
Artist: Dave Sparkes

This break is often a glorified closeout, like a smaller and sandy version of Apocalypse in Java. When it is really on though, it is one of the East Coast’s best waves.

PHOTOGRAPHERS BIO

Dave was born in 1962 and grew up in Bondi Beach, moving to Blueys Beach, on the NSW mid-north coast, in 1998. He has been a full-time professional surf photographer/journalist since 1996 and has completed assignments worldwide for magazines such as Tracks, Waves, The Surfer’s Path, Surfer, The Surfer’s Journal, Surfing World and ASL. He has also done assignments for Rip Curl, Billabong, Quiksilver, Carve Eyewear, and many other clients. He has written and photographed travel features for Outdoor magazine and The Sydney Morning Herald.

Dave has photographed numerous covers for magazines published in France, England, the US, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and Brazil, including the highly prestigious cover of the 2005 US Surfer Magazine Photo Annual. He has travelled to many countries for commercial and editorial shoots including Hawaii, Tahiti, Indonesia, Chile, Philippines, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Marshall Islands, Mexico, Tonga, Fiji, China, Cook Islands, Japan, Mozambique and South Africa.

In early 2005, for Tracks Magazine, Dave covered the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami that devastated much of South-East Asia. Dave has been a staff photographer/writer for the iconic Tracks magazine since 1998. He has twice placed amongst the top ten finalists of the Australian Professional Surf Photo Awards. He is well known for his mastery of the “over/under” or split shot genre and is considered by his peers to be the leading photographer in this field.
Dave has had images published in several books such as The Moment, Pilgrimage, The World Stormrider Guide, Outra Ondas, A Wave Away and Archipelago.

His first solo book, The Wave: Tales From The Impact Zone, a stunning collection of images and travel stories, was published in Australia and New Zealand by Hachette Publishing in 2011, to rave reviews.
In his book review for the Sydney Morning Herald, noted journalist David Knox wrote of The Wave: Tales From the Impact Zone:
“Proof of Sparkes’ artistry with a camera appears on every page, but the book is made all the more satisfying by the author’s deftness with words. He writes cleverly and lovingly of his craft… A rewarding, enlightening and often humorous read…”

Dave currently resides in Byron Bay with his fiancée, Tracey, and is now developing a reputation as a fine watercolourist, having held exhibitions at Tweed Regional Gallery; Grafton Regional Gallery; Lone Goat Gallery; NRCG (Ballina); Coldstream Gallery, Ulmarra; and several others. He paints watercolour landscapes full-time these days, with surf photography only occasionally in the mix.

The Printing Process

Premium Quality Paper: Tracks print art is printed on the highest quality paper available. Your Print will be created using the finest archival materials and processes to ensure the best possible quality. Premium Smooth Cotton Rag - Natural White 315gsm: Fine art paper, crafted to adhere to ISO 9706 and proudly bearing FSC certification. This premium paper, featuring a subtle yet luxurious texture, elevates artwork to gallery-quality standards whilst supporting sustainable forestry practices.
Framing process; Produced on our cutting-edge giclee fine art printers housed in our Northern Sydney print lab, every print undergoes precise trimming and professional mounting on mould-resistant framing core-board. Encased in a solid timber frame and finished with premium Japanese framing tape, each piece is delivered ready to hang, ensuring enduring preservation.

✓ Sustainably Sourced Materials: Our frames are constructed using solid timber that is FSC certified, reflecting our dedication to sustainable sourcing practices.
✓ Superior Clarity Acrylic: The acrylic used in our frames surpasses traditional glass or 'perspex' in both clarity and durability, offering a crystal-clear view of the artwork without compromising on strength.
✓ Optimal Artwork Presentation: While all clear surfaces naturally reflect some light, we avoid using non-reflective films on our acrylic. Such treatments can diminish the colour and vibrancy of the art. Our approach ensures your artwork is presented in its truest form.
✓ Mould-Resistant Backing: The rear of each frame features a mould-resistant white board, eschewing the use of MDF to protect and preserve your art prints. Your fine art is mounted to this professional-grade framing board for enhanced longevity.
✓ Ready to Hang: Every framed art print arrives ready for display, complete with unique hanging fixtures for easy installation.
Each print is available as; unframed (print only) or framed print (raw, black or white wooden frame).

White Border Details:
A white border refers to a deliberate, unprinted margin surrounding the artwork on your selected print. While this border will slightly reduce the visible area of your chosen design, the overall dimensions of the 315 gsm matte fine art paper will remain unchanged.
This feature is designed to enhance the presentation of your artwork by providing a built-in matting effect.
